Bath joins the club

Bath and North East Somerset Council has voted to declared a climate emergency and set a goal of going carbon neutral by 2030.

The motion had cross-party support, and followed a 2,200 signatory petition to the authority.

More significantly, perhaps, the motion was amended, by a narrow majority, to declare that BANES opposes the planned expansion of Bristol Airport. Details here.

It is getting more difficult to find local authorities who have not passed climate emergency declarations than to list those who have – they currently include Bristol, BANES, North Somerset, Bradford-on-Avon town council, and Wiltshire.
